Continuing issues with Covid 19 Alert level boating restrictions meant that as a club we only managed to weigh 360 fish during the past season, with 7 of these being new club records. In contrast during the last season prior to the Covid 19 outbreak we weighed 1,700 fish.

Highlights of the season were:
A total of 17 striped marlin with 15 of these tagged and only two weighed, two blue marlin with both weighed. This very high tag to weigh ratio, again keeps us right up there when compared with other clubs around the country. Foremost of these was Glenn Baker’s Blue Marlin of 266.4 kg on 37 kg tackle fishing on Over-sea-r.

We also saw the continuation of a very successful southern bluefin tuna catch with 22 weighed but only two yellowfin and one big eye tuna. Heaviest of these was a southern blue of 108.1kg on 37 kg tackle caught by Jonathan Hare on Bad to the Bone and the big eye of 97.4kg on 37 kg tackle caught by Rob Broomfield on Charleen. Also two Broadbill were weighed with Dylan Flyger’s fish of 246.85kg on 60 kg tackle on Dopamine becoming a new club record.

All catches recorded during the season have been recorded in our new Google based spreadsheet and these have also automatically loaded onto the new database which is saving a huge amount of time. It is particularly pleasing to report that Steve Denby the author of the database and spreadsheet has also put his hand up to come aboard as a weigh-master, and we look forward to having Steve in our team.

As many of you will be aware I have been reporting catches since 2011 not long after I first joined the committee, but this the 2021-22 is my valedictorian report, as I intend to take a major step back off the committee at the end of this reporting year. It has been a great pleasure to serve on the committee for three different Presidents for the past twelve years, and I have particularly enjoyed working under Warren’s stewardship. His impact on the club overall has been immense.

Once again thank you all and let’s look forward to a year of bumper catches.
